2014 NFL Draft

The Houston Texans made Jadeveon Clowney the top-overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft. After weeks and months of speculation and questions about Clowney’s work ethic, the Texans ultimately chose the defensive end out of South Carolina. Clowney collected several honors during his collegiate career, including being named the 2012 SEC Defensive Player of the Year. Clowney was also named a First Team All-American in 2013.

2014 NFL Draft Top Ten

Clowney headlines a star-studded list of players who were selected in the top ten of the 2014 NFL Draft. With the second pick, the St. Louis Rams took Auburn offensive lineman Greg Robinson. The Rams acquired the second-overall pick in the deal that helped the Redskins get Robert Griffin III in 2012.

At number three, the Jacksonville Jaguars surprised many by selecting UCF quarterback Blake Bortles. The surprises continued as the Buffalo Bills made a deal with the Cleveland Browns in order to select Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins fourth overall. The Oakland Raiders rounded out the top five by selecting Buffalo linebacker Kahlil Mack.

Picks 6-10 included:

  1. Atlanta Falcons – Jake Matthews (OT, Texas A&M)
  2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Mike Evans (WR, Texas A&M)
  3. Cleveland Browns – Justin Gilbert (CB, Oklahoma State)
  4. Minnesota Vikings – Anthony Barr (LB, UCLA)
  5. Detroit Lions – Eric Ebron (TE, North Carolina)

2014 NFL Draft: Johnny Manziel

Unquestionably the most intriguing storyline of the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft was the freefall of Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. Projected by many to be the first quarterback selected in the 2014 NFL Draft, Manziel was still on the board 15 picks into the first round. The intrigue reached a fever pitch when the draft order got to Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys at the 16th overall pick. Dallas ultimately passed on Manziel in favor of offensive lineman Zack Martin.

Manziel was still on the board when the Browns made a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles that allowed them to take the signal-caller with the 22nd overall pick.

Manziel wouldn’t be the last quarterback taken in the first round. The Minnesota Vikings made a trade with the Seattle Seahawks in order to select Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater with the final overall pick in the first round. Bortles, Manziel and Bridgewater were the only quarterbacks selected in the first round.

NFL Cheerleaders

NFL cheerleaders have become an integral part of America’s most popular professional sports league. For more than 70 years, NFL cheerleaders have been on the sidelines for some of the league’s biggest and most memorable games. Today, NFL cheerleaders continue to be an enormous part of the gameday experience.

History of NFL Cheerleaders

The Baltimore Colts were the first team to have NFL cheerleaders. In 1954, the cheerleaders joined forces with the Baltimore Colts Marching Band. By the 1960s, many teams added cheerleading squads, including the St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings and Washington Redskins.

Easily the most recognizable of all NFL cheerleaders are on the sidelines for the Dallas Cowboys, who have had a cheerleading squad every year since their inception in 1960. The Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders have appeared in everything from calendars and movies to reality television. The Cowboys’ squad is largely considered to be the gold standard when it comes to NFL cheerleaders.

Several teams use nicknames for their respective cheerleading squads, including:

  • Carolina Topcats (Panthers)
  • Chicago Honey Bears (Bears)
  • Cincinnati Ben-Gals (Bengals)
  • Jacksonville ROAR (Jaguars)
  • New Orleans Saintsations (Saints)
  • New York Jets Flight Crew
  • Oakland Raiderettes (Raiders)
  • San Francisco Gold Rush (49ers)
  • Seattle Sea Gals (Seahawks)

NFL cheerleaders have been entertaining American troops for decades. Cheerleaders from the Cowboys, 49ers and many more regularly appear as part of USO shows for United States Armed Forces members serving overseas.

In addition to their regular duties during practice, games and training camp, NFL cheerleaders regularly appear at schools and charity functions around the country. Many teams also release calendars featuring their cheerleaders every year.

Teams without NFL Cheerleaders

There are several teams that do not have NFL cheerleaders roaming their sidelines. As of the 2014 season, the New York Giants, Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers do not have cheerleaders.

Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders

The Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders are arguably the most famous and recognizable cheerleading squad in the world. For over 50 years, the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders have been roaming the sidelines in Texas. While the Cowboys have been unable to duplicate their previous Super Bowl success in recent years, the popularity of the cheerleading team has continued to grow.

History of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders

The first Dallas Cowboys cheerleading squad actually consisted of both men and women. Dubbed the “CowBelles & Beaux”, the first incarnation of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders made their debut on the sidelines in 1960, which was also the Cowboys’ first season in the NFL. The cheerleading team was made up of local high school students. Men were a part of the group until 1969.

It was Cowboys general manager Tex Schramm who decided the image of the squad needed to be changed after a professional stripper caused a stir in the stands during a game in 1967. Schramm decided the cheerleaders needed new uniforms and wanted the squad to focus more on dance routines.

The squad began undergoing a makeover in 1970. The “CowBelles & Beaux” name was dropped and the “Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders” were born. Since 1972, the squad has consisted of only women 18 years and older. The change in personnel allowed the Cowboys to be more risqué with their outfits and attire.

The Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders began to garner even more attention when they began showing up on television in 1978. The made-for-TV moving titled “The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders” starring Jane Seymour first aired in January 1979.

The cheerleaders went on to appear in a number of television shows and specials, including “The Love Boat”, “Family Feud”, “Hard Knocks”, “Saturday Night Live, “Late Show with David Letterman”, and “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”.

The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Today

Today, the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders are as popular as they’ve ever been. In 2006, a reality television show centered on making the team was launched. “Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team” documents the annual process of auditioning for the team.

The 36-member team also releases a swimsuit calendar every year. The current director of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders is Kelli Finglass, who was also a member of the squad from 1984-89.

Super Bowl Prop Bets

Super Bowl Sunday has undoubtedly become an unofficial holiday in the United States. Each year, millions of Americans gather in homes, bars and restaurants to watch the biggest football game of the season. Many have been known to place a wager or two on the action, but not everyone is trying to pick the winner or loser. Super Bowl prop bets have exploded in popularity, especially in recent years. Many of these bets have drawn mainstream attention on television and online because of their fun and sometimes wild and wacky nature.

“Prop” is short for proposition. Instead of trying to predict the final outcome of the game, you attempt to predict whether or not certain things will happen throughout the course of the game. Some Super Bowl prop bets involve the pregame and postgame festivities and have nothing to do with the game itself.

With a Super Bowl prop bets pool, everyone in attendance will have a vested interest in every single play of the game. Even those who have little to no interest in football will be rooting like they have been lifelong fans! You can get your own Super Bowl prop bets prediction contest sheet for free right here!

Note: This information is for entertainment purposes only.

Traditional Super Bowl Prop Bets

There are a number of traditional Super Bowl prop bets that have been around for decades. The most common and popular prop bet involves the coin toss before the big game. The question is as easy as it gets, as you will simply select whether the coin will land on heads or tails. The coin toss also has other bets attached to it, such as which team will win the toss and whether the winning team to will elect to receive or defer the opening kickoff.

Many Super Bowl prop bets are based on whether or not you believe there will be more or less of a predetermined statistical total, which is otherwise known as an over/under wager. Most totals will include a half-point to guard against ties or “pushes.” Some of the things you may be asked to predict the over/under totals on include:

• Will a quarterback pass for more than 250.5 yards?
• Will a running back rush for more than 99.5?
• Will either team score more than 27.5 points?
• Will either team kick a field goal over 44.5 yards?
• Will the total number of points be over or under 48.5?

These questions can be answered by themselves or as part of a Super Bowl prop bets prediction pool. There are literally hundreds of these types of props available for bettors online and in sportsbooks, but pools will likely only include a handful of questions.

Popular Super Bowl Prop Bets

Not all Super Bowl prop bets are based on stats, but the vast majority of them involve numbers. Some of the most popular prop bets are based around who will score the first touchdown of the game. In addition to picking the player, team or type of touchdown, bettors have the option of wagering on the jersey number of the first man to score.

Similar to the aforementioned total questions, bettors are asked whether the player’s number will be over or under a predetermined number. For example, the jersey number for the first player to score a touchdown in Super Bowl XLVI between the New York Giants and New England Patriots was 80.5. The first touchdown was recorded by Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, who wears number 80. If you had the under, you won by half a jersey number!

Another of the popular Super Bowl prop bets revolves around the game’s Most Valuable Player. In addition to trying to correctly predict who the MVP will be, players are given the option to predict who the MVP will thank first during his postgame speech. The most popular options available are God, family or teammates.

As crazy as it may sound, predicting the color of Gatorade that will be dumped on the winning head coach after the game is a wildly popular bet. Procedural events such as which team will commit the first penalty, which coach will throw the first challenge flag and whether or not the coach will win the challenge are other very popular Super Bowl prop bets.

Exotic Super Bowl Prop Bets

As the game grew in recognition over the decades, the popularity of exotic Super Bowl prop bets grew along with it. For example, bettors have been asked to predict which team President Barack Obama will pick to win during his annual pregame interview. Before Super Bowl XLVI, Obama declined to make a pick, which was also an option.

Another popular pregame Super Bowl prop bet involves the National Anthem. Fans are asked whether the performer will go over or under a predetermined amount of time to complete the “Star Spangled Banner.” Prior to Super Bowl XLV in 2011, pop star Christina Aguilera flubbed the lyrics of the anthem. The faux pas forced some gambling outlets to refund all wagers.

Super Bowl prop bets involving the entertainment certainly don’t stop there. Prognosticators are given the option to guess exactly what the person that sings the National Anthem will be wearing during the performance.

Exotic Super Bowl prop bets abound during the halftime show. Depending on the performer, options like outfit choices and which songs will be played are available. Depending on the location of the big game and the teams that are involved, there are bets regarding how many times a famous wife, family member or other celebrity will be shown on television during the broadcast.

Winning Your Super Bowl Prop Bets Contest

There’s no exact science to winning your Super Bowl prop bets contest. However, there’s plenty of research you can do before making your selections. You can always factor in things like past individual performances and series history when making statistical predictions. Some of the popular Super Bowl prop bets are based more on luck and fun.

Since 2000, eight of the 13 Super Bowls through XLVI have been decided by a touchdown or less, meaning there’s a pretty good chance of the game living up to the hype. If you unfortunately get stuck with a clunker (see Super Bowl XXXVII), a good time can still be had by all with a Super Bowl prop bets contest!

The 2014 NFL playoffs will open up with the traditional Wild Card Weekend, which features four games between Saturday and Sunday. Andy Reid was able to lead the Chiefs to an 11-5 record and a Wild Card berth in his first season in Kansas City. Andrew Luck and the Colts captured the AFC South crown after also going 11-5. Luck has reached the postseason in each of his first two seasons.

In the other AFC matchup, the San Diego Chargers will square off with the Bengals in Cincinnati on Sunday. The 9-7 Chargers clinched the final playoff spot in the AFC on the final day of the season. The Chargers outlasted the Chiefs in overtime in Week 17 to grab the last Wild Card berth. The Bengals rolled to the AFC North title after going 11-5. The Bengals are in the playoffs for the third straight year.

The top two teams in the AFC earned Wild Card weekend off. Both Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos and Tom Brady and the New England Patriots secured first-round byes. Manning’s record-breaking season led the Broncos to a 13-3 season, while Brady and the Pats cruised to the AFC East crown with a record of 12-4.

2014 NFL Playoffs: NFC Matchups

In the NFC, the first matchup on the 2014 NFL playoffs schedule pits the New Orleans Saints against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Saints stumbled down the stretch en route to going 11-5 and earning a Wild Card berth. The Eagles escaped Dallas with a 24-22 win over the Cowboys to clinch the NFC East championship in the final game of the season.

The final game of Wild Card Weekend features a playoff rematch between the San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers. The defending NFC champion 49ers are back in the playoffs after going 12-4. The top two teams in the NFC entering the 2014 NFL playoffs are the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers. Seattle is the top-overall seed in the NFC after going 13-3 and winning the NFC West. The Panthers used a late-season surge to finish 12-4 and atop the NFC South.

The Baltimore Ravens enter the 2013 NFL season as defending Super Bowl champions. Quarterback Joe Flacco received an enormous contract extension during the offseason, but the reigning champs lost plenty of talent, including linebacker Ray Lewis, safety Ed Reed and wide receiver Anquan Boldin.

The team the Ravens defeated in Super Bowl XLVII, the San Francisco 49ers, enters the 2013 NFL season as one of the favorites to win the NFC crown. San Francisco is expected to be in a season-long struggle with the Seattle Seahawks for NFC West supremacy.

The season will culminate with Super Bowl XLVIII on Sunday, February 2nd at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. This season’s Super Bowl is the first to intentionally be scheduled in a cold-weather city with an outdoor stadium.

The NFL Picks Pool

The NFL picks pool is a fun and simple way to follow every game during the season. The 32 NFL teams are split up into eight groups of four. To take part in the pool, simply select one team from each group that you wish to represent you for the entire season.

  • Baltimore Ravens
  • Washington Redskins

Pick one team from that group and that’s your squad for the rest of the year. Each win during the season is worth one point. The participant with the most points at after the Super Bowl is the winner. To make things more interesting, you can choose certain weeks during the season and make each victory worth two points. You can also increase the value of a playoff or Super Bowl victory.

With the NFL picks pool, you can track your favorite teams and your hated rivals simultaneously.

NFL Survivor Pool

Whether it’s fantasy football, straight up pick em contests or against the spread pools, the NFL lends itself to so many fun and exciting pools, leagues and contests. One contest that has surged in popularity in recent years is an NFL survivor pool. Also known as a suicide pool, survival pool, confidence pool or knockout pool, the survivor pool seems like it would be one of the easier football contests to participate in. However, many find out the hard way it can be the most difficult.

How to Play in an NFL Survivor Pool

While the objective of a survivor pool is fairly simple, executing a winning strategy can be exceptionally difficult. Each week during the regular season, a participant in a survivor pool will select only one of the 32 NFL teams they believe has the best chance to win. The caveat is that once you have selected a team and locked it in for a week, you cannot use that team for the remainder for the season.

For example, let’s say you select the Seattle Seahawks to win their Week One matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. If the Seahawks win, you advance to pick in Week Two. However, you cannot choose the Seahawks in any week for the rest of the year.screenshot of the NFL Survivor Pool

Using the same example, if you chose the Seahawks and they lost, you are automatically eliminated from the survivor pool. Just one incorrect pick will kick you out of the tournament for the remainder of the year.

As the weeks of the season roll on, it’s likely the pool field will dwindle with incorrect picks. The person to have the final remaining correct selection, no matter the week, is declared the winner of the pool. This could happen in Week 1, Week 6 or any other week of the year. It’s all based on how well the pool players make their picks.

There are several different strategies you can employ when competing in the pool. Some like to burn through all the elite teams early and roll the dice later, while others will look for potentially good matchups on paper and roll the dice early so they have more elite teams at their disposal later in the year.

Either way, a survivor pool is just another way to add a little more excitement to an NFL weekend.

Super Bowl 2014

Super Bowl 2014 will take place Sunday, February 2nd. The 48th installment of the Super Bowl will be played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The New York metropolitan area will be hosting an NFL Championship Game for the first time since the Green Bay Packers beat the New York Giants in Yankee Stadium in 1962. The AFL Championship Game was played in New York in 1968, while the USFL Championship Game took place at the old Giants Stadium in 1985.

Super Bowl 2014: Cold-Weather Game

Super Bowl XLVIII will mark the first time that the game is played in a cold-weather city with a stadium that does not have a roof or a dome. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said that Super Bowl 2014 will serve as a test for hosting future Super Bowls in cold-weather cities.

The billion-dollar facility first opened in April 2010 and holds over 82,000 fans. MetLife Stadium was chosen over Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida and Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida.

Super Bowl 2014: Giants, Jets

For the 47th consecutive year, the home team failed in its bid to host the Super Bowl when the New Orleans Saints missed the playoffs last season. In 2014, two teams will have the opportunity to host the game, as MetLife Stadium is the home of the New York Giants and the New York Jets.

The Giants recently won it all during the 2007 and 2011 seasons. Both times the Giants defeated the New England Patriots for the championship. The Giants followed up their Super Bowl victory in 2012 by missing the playoffs. The Giants have won four Super Bowl titles in franchise history, with their wins coming in California, Florida, Arizona and Indiana, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Jets were victorious in their only Super Bowl appearance. However, that was in Super Bowl III during the 1968 season. The Jets beat the heavily-favored Baltimore Colts in Miami. The Jets were just 6-10 during the 2012 season.

Super Bowl 2013

Super Bowl 2013 will pit the NFC champion San Francisco 49ers against the AFC champion Baltimore Ravens. Super Bowl Sunday 2013 will take place at the Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 3rd. This year’s big game isn’t short on riveting storylines. One thing is for certain; a Harbaugh will be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy by the end of the night.

Super Bowl 2013: The Harbaugh Bowl

Super Bowl Sunday 2013 has been dubbed by many as the “HarBowl,” as San Francisco head coach Jim Harbaugh will square off with Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh. It marks the first time in NFL history that the head men on opposing sidelines in the big game are brothers.super-bowl-2013

This isn’t, however, the first time the brothers will lead their teams on the field against each other. On Thanksgiving night in 2011, John and the Ravens got the best of Jim and the 49ers in Baltimore, 16-6.

Super Bowl 2013: Ray Lewis’ “Last Ride”

Prior to the start of the postseason, star Ravens linebacker announced that he will be retiring at the end of the season. Lewis missed most of the regular season due to a triceps tear, but returned for what he termed will be his “last ride.”

Super Bowl Sunday 2013 will mark the end of a career that includes 13 Pro Bowl selections, 10 All-Pro selections and two NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards. Lewis also won Most Valuable Player honors when the Ravens beat the New York Giants in Super Bowl XXXV.

Super Bowl 2013: Kaepernick’s Crew

In Week 10 of the regular season, San Francisco starting quarterback Alex Smith suffered a concussion that opened the door for second-year signal-caller Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick made his first NFL start in a 32-7 trouncing of the Bears on “Monday Night Football” on November 19th and has kept the job ever since.

In his first playoff game, Kaepernick set an NFL record for rushing yards by a quarterback in any game with 181 yards. Kaepernick then helped the Niners erase a 17-0 deficit and rally for a 28-24 win over the Falcons in the NFC Championship Game.

On Super Bowl Sunday 2013, Kaepernick will join the likes of Hall of Famers Joe Montana and Steve Young as starting quarterbacks for the Niners in the big game.

Super Bowl 2013: History

On Super Bowl Sunday 2013, the 49ers will look to match the Pittsburgh Steelers in all-time Super Bowl wins. San Francisco is a perfect 5-0 in its previous trips to the title game. Baltimore is making only its second Super Bowl appearance. The Ravens were victorious in their only other trip in 2001. The Niners and Ravens have only met three times since 2001. Baltimore has won all three meetings.

Super Bowl 2013: Squares and Party Gamessuper bowl party games

Super Bowl Sunday 2013 will be considered by some to be a national holiday. Millions of Americans will host parties and gatherings around the nation. Super Bowl squares and Super Bowl prop bets contests are popular additions to any party. Printable Brackets has released a special Super Bowl squares template featuring the logos of the combatants in this year’s big game.
